Rich guys versus working people – guess who wins?
If you wanted to find a poster-boy of sorts for the arch-enemy of the working and middle class, you really can’t do much better than Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Ask a cop, teacher or nurse in Chicago what they think of Rahm and you’d better be ready for some high-volume expletives. Like all corporate democrats, Rahm’s in politics to help the people he cares about and admires most- hedge fund millionaires and billionaires. And just like in other cities, those wealthy few want to get their grubby hands on the retirement savings of public employees. So Rahm is going with a wildly successful and time-tested strategy to effect the transfer of funds from workers to the wealthy. Rahm says, “If we make no reforms at all across our pension funds, we would have to raise City property taxes by 150%…. Businesses and families would flee, not just from our city but from our state.” Sound familiar? It should.
