OMG! He’s back!
It was only a couple of weeks ago that San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed threw in the towel and said he was halting his effort to get a measure on the California ballot that if passed would decimate pensions for public employees.
Well guess what? He’s back. Last week Reed announced at the Sacramento Press Club that he is pressing ahead with the same ballot initiative that would give local governments more leeway to cut public employees’ future pension benefits.
“We have not stopped working on this,” Reed told his audience. “We will not give up.”
Jim Unland, president of the San Jose POA said he saw this coming.
“People called me when he withdrew the ballot proposal and asked if we were celebrating,” Unland said. “I told all of them, ‘No way. He’ll be back probably sooner rather than later.’ We are staying mobilized.”
