Mayor should listen to police scanner
In Illinois, the head of the Springfield Police Officers Association is encouraging Mayor Bob Stephens and City Councilman Doug Burlison to “to turn on a scanner every once in a while.” Following Stephens’ comments to the News-Leader on Wednesday that the prioritization of funding additional officers at the possible expense of other city departments “is essentially setting up the caste system,”
President Mike Evans responded in a post on the association’s Facebook page. “While certain politicians may doubt our staffing issues, our boys and girls in blue go in service on squads that are not meeting minimum staffing levels, officers are being asked to work more and more overtime to fill empty slots on the streets, and being put at an ever increasing level of danger because of our diminishing resources,” Evans wrote in the post.
