It’s the cops’ fault – obviously

People don’t spend a lot of time thinking about public safety. To many civilians, cops seem like they should be able to handle anything. And that’s just not how it works.
Are cops police officers or doctors and nurses? Most people would say cops are cops and that they’re not trained to administer emergency medical aid outside of certain situations. But that’s where departmental policy, public ignorance and critical incidents converge.
“Why didn’t that lazy cop help that poor woman,” you’ll hear civilians ask. The answer is that cops aren’t trained to treat gunshot wounds or make complicated medical diagnosis. Increasing awareness about that fact can obviously save an association a lot of time, money and aggravation.
