Listen to education expert Diane Ravitch, who worked under President George H. W. Bush and was a champion of so-called “education reform” and supported everything from vouchers to charter schools, explain why she has reversed course. She has come out with a new book. Reign of Error: The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger to America’s Public Schools which is destined to be one of the biggest books this year showing how privatizing some functions of the government (like education and publice safety) is a disaster.
Ravitch calls the charter school movement nothing more than an organized effort to privatize our schools and make money for the corporations who run them; that they are an attack on public education itself – a Trojan horse for privatization.
