This Town Loves Its Cops
Ed. Note: Here’s some great news from John Rivera and the Dade County PBA. Maybe you could persuade a radio station in your town to do this kind of call-in show. You might be surprised at all the support you actually do have out in your community. Read John’s message below. Please note how he thanks the sponsors at the end of his message. This is a really good idea. For more information, email him at John@dcpba.org.
“Law Enforcement – We Appreciate You!”
By John Rivera, President, Dade County PBA
The Dade County PBA was recently asked to appear on two radio shows— La Poderosa (670 AM) with host Jose Luis Rodriguez and Cadena Azul (1550 AM) with host Aaron Glanz—to open up dialogue with the community regarding police issues. The response we received from the community was unanimously supportive of what we do, and caller after caller pleaded with us to not be discouraged and to pass on their feelings to our members. So many people told us, “We want you to know that this community supports you!”
One lady told us about an officer who gave her a ticket. She explained that while she deserved the ticket, she felt the cop was so professional that she wrote a commendation letter to his supervisor! Another caller made it a point to tell us that her respect for cops far outweighs her respect for some elected officials. “Each of you does make a difference,” she said.
The sheer volume of calls coming in was more than the stations could handle and the station owner, Jorge Rodriguez, was so impressed with the response, he have asked us to please come back and be regulars.
We wanted to let all our brothers and sisters to know about this. Keep up the good work you each do and do not be discouraged by naysayers who could never walk your walk. You have a lot of support out there.
The programs were sponsored by businesses who support law enforcement and are tired of the rhetoric and bad press we have been receiving.
The businesses are Nature’s Fragrance, Sabor Tropical Supermarkets, Father and Sons, Dr. Otero, Productos Coqui, and El Batey. They are all committed to putting forth an all-out effort supporting police and combating the recent false negativity. We thank them for their support and we look forward to join them in this venture.
Stay safe, and thank you for what you do.
