Cops don’t vote Democrat
Police officers, and the organizations that represent their interests like police associations, are generally very politically and culturally conservative. This is due in part to the mythology that one of the two main political parties in this country is somehow more interested in law and order than the other.
But what happens in a state where the party of law and order is given cart blanche to cut services and slash salaries to the bone? What does the subjective ideal of “small government” actually look and feel like? All you have to do to find out is read up on Kansas. Sam Brownback is a conservative rock star. He’s cut public services and taxes for the rich and corporations deeper and faster than almost anyone in recent memory. And now the worm is starting to turn. Much like the cops who supported Chris Christie in New Jersey, ultra-conservative voters are starting to realize they got played.
