Big guns want you working as a security guard
There are literally hundreds, maybe even thousands of individuals, organizations, businesses, think tanks and media outlets that are hell bent on turning professional law enforcement people into security guards working for private companies (and making minimum wage.)
Today we take a look at Newsmax – a media outlet that’s pushing out the propaganda that it’s your pay and benefits that’s causing the economic distress suffered by our cities, counties, towns and states.
Newsmax Media is a conservative news media organization founded by Christopher W. Ruddy and based in West Palm Beach, Florida. It operates the news website Newsmax.com and publishes Newsmax magazine. Ruddy started Newsmax.com on September 16, 1998, supported by a group of investors, including the family of the late Central Intelligence Agency Director William J. Casey and later, Richard Mellon Scaife whose money funded attacks on Bill Clinton when he was president.
Typical content is something like this:
“Newsmax Columnist Suggests Military Coup to ‘Resolve the “Obama Problem”
“Imagine a bloodless coup to restore and defend the Constitution through an interim administration that would do the serious business of governing and defending the nation,” Perry writes. “Skilled, military-trained nation-builders would replace accountability-challenged, radical-left commissars. Having bonded with his twin teleprompters, the president would be detailed for ceremonial speech-making.”
We are as critical of our current president as anyone out there but we also understand that advocating for the violent overthrow of a duly elected sitting president of the United States is actually treason.
Newsmax is front for corporate interests who are marketing deregulation, tax cuts for corporate interests and the super-rich and what many refer to as “Reagan’s dream,”- the complete dismantling social programs and government spending of any type outside of defense.
During the last election cycle, a number of well-funded campaigns to convince voters to screw pensioners and retirees in order to give their retirement money to corporations were defeated by voters at the polls – in some cases by wide margins. Cincinnati voters turned back an effort funded by the Koch brothers to take away city worker’s pensions by 78%. Read more.
Anyone interested in opposition research, messaging or framing might want to take a look at how Newsmax editorialized on this victory for the American worker.
