You are paying more
Any time a city council, manager or mayor says you have not paid your fair share to help ease your city, town or county’s ongoing financial crisis, here’s some ammunition to fight back. It turns out that you have been paying a lot more out of your own pocket for the same level of health care and pension benefits that you enjoyed in 2009. And that’s not just in California.
Take a look at this. In 2009 58 California counties paid more than $660 million for benefits for their employees. That dropped to $452 million in 2012.
San Diego’s costs went from $45,900,000 in 2009 to $6,700,000 in 2012 due to larger contributions from the employees. That’s an 85% drop.
