Want to get more women on board?
Here’s a great idea from the Sergeants’ Benevolent Association in New York City – give out awards to women from your agency who have distinguished themselves. Call it the “Women of Influence Award” and make it part of “Women’s History Month.”
Here’s the letter that went out from Ed Mullins, president of the SBA to his members about the award along with information on how to nominate candidates.
Dear Member:
On behalf of the entire SBA Board and in honor of Women’s History Month we are thrilled to announce a new SBA initiative – Women of Influence. I encourage each and every member to nominate an active or retired sergeant who has demonstrated their character, courage and commitment as mothers, educators, institution builders, business, labor, political and community leaders, relief workers, religious leaders, and CEOs. Their lives and their work inspire girls and women to achieve their full potential and encourage boys and men to respect the diversity and depth of women’s experience.
The SBA will host an annual Women of Influence Luncheon beginning in March of 2015, at which time selected finalist will be honored for their extraordinary efforts and achievements.
The purpose of Women’s History Month is to increase consciousness and knowledge of women’s history: to take one month of the year to remember the contributions of notable and ordinary women, in hopes that the day will soon come when it’s impossible to teach or learn history without remembering these contributions
Join us as we celebrate the achievements of the SBA’s leading women in law enforcement and the community by nominating deserving women.
Fraternally,
Ed Mullins, President
Sergeants Benevolent Association
