Texas GOP Chair Needs to Hear from You
The Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Chairman Tom Mechler said he supports SB 1968, a bill which, if passed, would end the practice of labor union dues from being automatically withheld from the paychecks of government employees.
While the bill does include an exception for police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical services personnel—whose unions will still be able to use automatic paycheck withdrawals to collect their—it’s important for the police unions and associations to lend their political clout to fight this bill, which would impact other government employees.
There are many people who feel that the big money and people out to destroy the unions are exempting fire and police for now, but their ultimate goal is to end automatic dues collection and the entire collective bargaining process for police and fire as well.
Right now, this bill applies to state, county, and municipal employees, including employees of community colleges, universities, and school districts.
Mechler told Breitbart, Texas, that the RPT was “very supportive” of SB 1968, explaining that it “would restore fairness to the negotiating process.”
“We don’t think the unions should be getting special treatment like they are right now,” said Mechler. “It’s inappropriate that they give the unions special treatment that nobody else gets.”
