Dallas Police Chief David Brown is a big believer in technology. The Dallas PD loses about 20 cops a year to retirement and attrition but Brown is only asking for 165 new hires to replace the 200 vacant positions. He says the move will save close to a million bucks. He wants to use that money to purchase technology that will allow him to reduce the ranks even further. The best part is that for bosses like Brown, the relationships they develop with companies that sell gear to agencies can be extremely lucrative. For instance – the former chief of police in Albuquerque, New Mexico is now a board member of Taser International.
