Most of the time people will choose the words they use based on whom they’re talking to. For instance, a labor organization might speak differently to members in the organization’s magazine or newsletter than they would when addressing the media or the public. But what happens when an anti-union columnist with an axe to grind gets a hold of something like the Las Vegas Police Protective Association’s publication called Vegas Beat? Well let’s just say the job of attacking pensions gets a lot easier when you can cherry pick quotes that seem to make your case. This is “opposition research 101.”
