Koch brothers get creamed, again
Charles and David Koch, the billionaire oil and gas men who are committed to taking away your pensions and collective bargaining rights, suffered a big set back on election day. They had set their sites and their considerable wealth funneled through their front organization Americans for Prosperity on a mayoral and city council race in the town of Coralville, Iowa, population 20,000.
The good news? They got creamed. All the Koch’s favored candidates were defeated. John Lundell was elected mayor while incumbents Tom Gill and Bill Hoeft along with newcomer Laurie Goodrich won seats on the City
“We took on the Koch brothers and successfully beat them by a huge margin,” John Lundell, the mayor-elect said.
Observers say the Kochs’ aggressive presence in the community to influence a mayoral and city council race infuriated many members of this small town who were happy to show their displeasure at the ballot box.
Election time in Coralville is usually a pleasant community affair. But not this year. Americans for Prosperity barged into town with an aggressive campaign that included mailing fliers, advertising in newspapers, robo calling and knocking on doors. The last leaflet distributed to every mailbox in Coralvills before the election denounced the town’s growing debt comparing it to the financial woes of Detroit. “Coralville is fast becoming Iowa’s version of Detroit,” the flier read.
