Getting the message out
The Memphis Police Association has been one of the more proactive police associations in the country in terms of getting their message out to the community and getting their support as a result. Watch this news broadcast as Mike Williams, the president, stands in front of the Memphis skyline thanking people for their support in restoring the 4.6 percent paycut.
“You’ve let this city’s leadership know that you care about this city,” Williams says. “We definitely want to thank the citizens of this city. We don’t think we’d have been able to get the 4.6 back if it hadn’t been for the support of the citizens and the businesses in the city of Memphis.”
Williams says what is good for the city is good for the Memphis Police Association. And what is happening in the city right now, he says, isn’t good. “Talking about closing down fire stations. The citizens don’t like that. They’re talking about smart meters at MLGW that the citizens don’t want.”
The union has had the “Wake Up Memphis Campaign” going on for a couple of years, and the goal has always been the same – to protect the interests of Memphis cops and the citizens they serve.
