Does this ad work?
As any labor leader worth his or her salt will tell you, messaging – otherwise known as political advertising – is a critical aspect of the battle for hearts and minds. The question is what works best and why. One of the considerations for any organization seeking to raise awareness about a legislative proposal, public figure or just about anything else is what seems like a very basic question – who is the ad designed for? Below you can find a pretty typical public safety association attack ad that goes after the mayor. If you’re a Memphis firefighter the ad below probably makes all the sense in the world. But it’s a worthwhile exercise to ask questions about how effective the ad is. For instance – who are the pilots that have the city drowning in debt? With all political advertising the question should always be who is this ad designed to talk to and what is it that we’re trying to say?
